Campaigners are celebrating after their battle to have a crossing installed on a busy road in Dollis Hill has moved a step closer.
Cllr Alison Hopkins launched a petition calling for the safety measures to be implemented on the A5 Edgware Road between Staples Corner and the traffic lights at Dollis Hill Lane, following concerns from residents.
The Liberal Democrat councillor for Dollis Hill held discussions with highways officers from Brent Council resulting in the proposal of a new pelican crossing - subject to the results of a public consultation.
Cllr Hopkins said: “This is something local residents have wanted for years. I am delighted I’ve been able to get this result in conjunction with council officers. Up to now local people have always faced a daunting choice between dodging speeding traffic to reach the bus stop on the other side of the road or walking hundreds of metres out of their way.
“This crossing will make a real difference.”
