Around 300 people attended a special event at Brent Civic Centre to mark International Day for People with Disabilities.
Residents with disabilities, their carers and families explored how to overcome the challenges they face in their day to day life at the event organised by Brent Housing Partnership and Brent Council.
Christopher Mullan, a resident from Wembley, said: “I thought this event was excellent, it showed that disabled people contribute positively to society.
“It was good to hear from people who do not often have a voice and I look forward to more events like this in the future.”
Attendees were able to attend workshop focussed on topics ranging from Transport for London’s plans for improving transport and accessibility to benefit advice.
They were also educated on the range of support available locally for disabled residents and their carers.
Cllr Helga Gladbaum, Chair of Brent’s Disability Forum said: “The International Day for People with Disabilities provided a brilliant opportunity for Brent Council and BHP to raise awareness of the challenges faced by disabled people across our borough and to celebrate diversity.”
