This week I’d like to talk about how the prompt actions by a member of the public helped bring to justice two prolific criminals.

We can’t reduce crime alone. We need you to be our eyes and ears, tell us if you see something you think is suspicious. No matter how inconsequential you think it is, I’d like you to call us.

Last week, a member of the public was sitting enjoying a cup of tea from the comfort of their own home in Willesden when they noticed two men outside one of their neighbour’s address. They were quickly on the phone to us, detailing the descriptions and actions of our suspicious looking guys. My cops were on scene five minutes later and apprehended these two men.

They were found in possession of jewellery and computer equipment stolen from the house they were seen loitering outside.

Both men have since been charged with burglary and remanded in to custody.

My thanks go out to this member of the public who trusted their instincts and helped their neighbour. Nothing can fully make up for the feelings of violation that stay with victims of burglary, but knowing the perpetrators have been apprehended and their possessions restored is of some comfort. I can reassure you that residential burglary across Brent has fallen by 23 epr cent, which equates to 831 fewer victims of crime. I want my cops to catch even more criminals and you can be part of this by being watchful and taking an interest in what goes on in your street.

Have a think about how you can help and never hesitate to call us.
