The average waiting time for an allotment in Brent has been more then halved in the last three years.

Green-fingered residents now have to wait around 17 months to be allocated a plot compared to three years in 2011.

To reduce the waiting list even further, Brent Council is asking all 91 people with an allotment who have not returned their signed agreement, to do so immediately or they may lose their plot.

Cllr Muhammed Butt, Leader of Brent Council said “Allotments are a great way of growing good quality and fresh fruit and vegetables for your family and friends at a low cost.

“It will help improve your health. Working an allotment is a good physical workout and a great way of beating stress for people of all ages and abilities.

“Allotments are a good way of making friends with people and you can get closer to nature and wildlife.”

An allotment in Brent costs £83.50 for Brent residents and £93.50 for non-Brent residents for 125m2 per year. Prices are reduced by half if you are over 60, receive unemployment benefit or are registered disabled.
