Brent residents and community groups are being encouraged to attend one of the seven consultation events happening this month to have their say on where the council’s cuts should be made.
Jo Coburn, host of the BBC’s Daily Politics Show, is coming to the Brent Civic Centre on Engineers Way, Wembley, to chair two special budget consultation events.
The council revealed last month that savings options worth £60million and councillors need to decide which options – totalling £54million – to agree at a Budget Council meeting in March.
Measures included in the budget options paper include the ending of funding for all youth services in the borough, the closure of one out of the three council run leisure centres, the possible axing of a day care centre for disabled residents, and a reduction in children’s centres and respite care.
According to the council they will have lost half their funding from central government by 2018.
Cllr Muhammed Butt, leader of Brent Council said: “These consultation events are an extremely important part of the decision making process for the council and I would encourage residents, service users and community groups to come along and have their say.
“Given the pace and scale of the cuts imposed upon us we need to radically rethink the way public services are delivered, which will mean building on our work with communities and voluntary groups to deliver services together where we can. We also need to ensure that our limited resources are spent on those things that matter most to residents and that the most vulnerable are protected.”
