The special annual event, which honours the late award-winning children’s author, sees youngsters dressed as a character from one of his books in his honour.

Alexander Whittaker, from Harlesden, dressed as an Oompa Loompa from Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory.

The six-year-old is a pupil at Leopold Primary School in Hawkshead Road, Harlesden.

His mother Anita said: “Alexander has read most of Roald Dahl’s books, so when he found out he would get to dress up as one of the characters for school he was very happy.

“He was so excited that he got up, washed, had his breakfast and was ready to be dressed by 7am!

“The look on his face was priceless and he said ‘I’m the best ever Oompa Loompa, my hair is so blue!’.

“He wouldn’t stop giggling.”
