A Harlesden secondary school baked and sold some showstopping cakes to raise money for a cancer charity.
Sixth formers at the Convent of Jesus and Mary Language College in Crownhill Road, pulled out all the stops for its annual Macmillan Coffee Morning raising £500 for MacMillan nurses.
The girls took part in a baking afternoon the day before to make and decorate their cakes including vanilla cupcakes, a red velvet cake, and smartie cookies.
Mariana, Year 13, said: “I didn’t know how to bake but I learnt to help support Macmillan Coffee Morning. Although the baking made a mess, eating cake was best!”
Kaylah, Year 12, said: ‘The MacMillan morning was great, I really enjoyed supporting those who made the cupcakes and liked the fact that I was contributing to helping this organisation who support cancer patients and their families’
Emma, Year 13, added: “It was a great experience to offer up our time in order to help a good cause.”
Maggie Barber, head of Sixth form said: ‘Well done to the Year 13s for arranging an extremely successful coffee morning. All students were involved in producing posters and planning the morning through their PSHE lessons.
“In addition to this a significant number remained after school to bake in preparation for Friday. Lastly, thanks to all the Year 12s, Year 13s and staff who contributed on the day – there was such a buzz and it was the topic of conversation for the day.”
