There were superheroes and princesses galore in Sudbury Hill as nursery children dressed up for a day of fundraising in aid of a charity.

Pupils and staff at the Busy Bees nursery in Greenford Road, raised more than £100 for Winston’s Wish, a childhood bereavement charity.

Children’s imaginations were allowed to run wild as they made their very own superhero props, explored the lovely garden areas at the nursery and used their superhero powers on different adventures.

Winston’s Wish helps more than 40,000 children and young people every year to rebuild their lives after the death of a parent or sibling, through a range of dedicated services, drop-in sessions, a pre-school help book and national helpline.

As part of Busy Bees’ year-long charity partnership, the nursery will be holding a number of fundraising events, including a summer fair, and inviting the local community to take part.

Tracy Bishop, nursery manager at Busy Bees, said: “The children and staff had a fantastic day and it was all in aid of raising money for a great cause. We had everyone from Superman and Supergirl to Batman and Robin – it was a brilliant day had by all!

“The children really enjoyed the chance to get creative by designing and making their own superhero props and using their superhero powers on adventures throughout the nursery. Every activity we do within the nursery is not only designed to be fun, but also relate a child’s learning to real experiences. By stimulating a child’s brain in the early years, it is more likely to develop quicker and improve their outcomes as they move into adulthood.

“We’d like to thank all our parents who are constantly supportive of our fundraising efforts. We can’t wait to host more events in aid of the charity and get the local community, families and our parents involved.”
