Some damaged pavements in Brent will be replaced with tarmac under plans announced by Brent Council today.
The town hall has introduced the changes saying it will make ‘limited resources stretch further’ as it tackles an increase in pot-riddled roads and broken pavements in the borough.
The council has also approved an additional £2million to be added to the budget for improving the borough’s roads and pavement meaning it will now spend £5.5m on repairs and maintenance.
Cllr Eleanor Southwood, Brent Council’s cabinet member for the environment, said: “Bringing all of our roads and pavements up to scratch would cost £100m. “Improving our processes and using more cost effective materials will make sure that the funding we do have is used as efficiently as possible.
“Not only will the investment reduce long term costs and allow for more roads to be maintained, but it will go a long way to mitigate traffic noise and vibrations caused by uneven surfacing and repeat maintenance works.
Cllr Southwood added: “With this extra investment and better ways of working, I hope we’ll see a borough which is more accessible with far fewer potholes and pavement trips.”
In February the Times discovered that one in six streets in Brent are plagued with potholes amid complaints from angry drivers on social media websites.
