A Harlesden resident whose home has been flooded eight times in the last five years by her upstairs neighbour claims her landlord is ignoring the issue.

Louisa Dos Santos, who lives in a two bedroom flat in a house conversion owned by Genesis Housing in St Albans Road, was left without electricity for days following a flooding this week.

The 45-year-old, who lives with her daughter Nicole Amaral, 20, said: “The problems started when the neighbour moved in five years ago and started doing the work on her flat herself. Last year there was a major leak and Genesis said the issue was resolved and wouldn’t happen again, but here we are again throwing buckets and buckets into the toilet, and with no electricity for the past four days. Genesis should be liable but they do nothing about it, except ignore my complaints.”

Ms Dos Santos said flooding had occurred in her daughter’s bedroom four times, twice in the hallway and once in the kitchen and living room with high costs of replacing items, such as mattresses, chandeliers, and room dividing screens.

She added: “Because of the mould and damp that smells so bad, my asthma has got much worse. I have two inhalers now and I’m on medication.

“I want them to move us. Genesis are aware of everything but it takes ages for them to do anything and then there’s another leak. That’s not dealing with it properly.”

A spokesman for Genesis Housing said: “Genesis can confirm that the leak into the flat was fixed on 22nd June. The origin of the leak was a faulty pump in the airing cupboard in the neighbour’s flat.

“We have tried to contact Ms. Dos Santos to inform her of this latest position and to discuss the issues she raises. We are keen to resolve them with her to her satisfaction and are sorry to hear that she has had health issues.

“We take these matters seriously and are determined to resolve the leak fully. To that end we have arranged for a full inspection of the repair – this will take place today.”
