Thousands of young bookworms have signed up to a reading challenge taking place in libraries across Brent.
The aptly-named ‘Big Friendly Read Summer Reading Challenge’ encourages children to read a minimum of six books during the summer holiday while completing fun competitions and activities.
The chosen author for this year is Roald Dahl
So far more than 4,000 youngsters are taking part meaning at least 24,000 books will have been read during the six-week break.
Last week the activities were inspired by Roald Dahl’s bestselling book The Witches so children created special witches hats to hide the bald heads of some of the author’s nastiest characters.
There is one week left to sign up at any library in Brent, just ask staff for details.
