Ian Holloway believes QPR’s upturn in form has come at an important time as he attempts to lure prospective signings to the club in the January transfer window.

Rangers lost six games in a row before stopping the rot by winning 2-1 at Wolves on New Year’s Eve – and they then made a positive start to 2017 on Monday, overcoming Ipswich by the same scoreline at Loftus Road.

Those back-to-back victories have changed the mood, and Holloway hopes the signs of progress will also help the club’s recruitment drive.

“Now [the players] are feeling a lot better and I can’t thank them enough,” said the Rs boss. “The window’s massive for us and now people have seen us win two games they might actually want to come here instead of thinking ‘so I want to go into a dressing room like that?’

“No-one likes to have a terrible run like that. It’s a horrible feeling and I felt so down, but I never showed the lads because what they were producing at times was quite promising, but they were getting nothing.”

Idrissa Sylla gave Rangers a first-half lead against Ipswich and, although Tom Lawrence equalised with a fine strike, Pawel Wszolek made another decisive contribution, netting a late winner for the second game in a row.

The Polish winger chased Nedum Onuoha’s long ball and held off Adam Webster before rounding goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski and finishing into the empty net.

“What a fantastic finish. I love Pawel to bits - he doesn’t stop running,” said Holloway.

“Football’s about having a balance of legs and knowledge and experience and youth.

“We’ve also got to see fight here - and we saw that again. Now I can have a look at things and see what’s right for us.

“Bits and pieces might not look the best at the moment but it feels so much nicer now.”

QPR lost Sylla, who scored for the second time in as many games, to a head injury shortly after his opener against Ipswich, but Holloway says there is no cause for concern.

“He took a hell of a whack,” said the manager. “When he came round I said ‘welcome to England’.

“He was actually unconscious but he’s okay. He’s smiling because he scored again. We were worried about him because we thought it was full-on concussion, but I don’t now think so.”
