Football legends and celebrities came together at Queens Park Rangers’ Loftus Road ground on Saturday to raise funds for the victims of June’s Grenfell Tower fire.

The #Game4Grenfell was organised by QPR director of football Les Ferdinand and Mumford & Sons frontman Marcus Mumford.

Former QPR favourites such as David Seaman, Marc Bircham, Clint Hill, Peter Crouch, Andy Sinton and Trevor Sinclair all took part in the match, as well as celebrities like actor Damian Lewis and Olympic gold medallists Sir Mo Farah and Darren Campbell.

Also taking part were firefighters and volunteers who helped in the relief effort, as well as Grenfell Tower residents Shahin Sadafi, Oluwaseun Talabi, Bobby Ross and Paul Menacer.

The two teams were managed by Ferdinand and fellow former England international Alan Shearer.

It was Team Ferdinand who took the lead, with Farah putting them ahead after good work from Lewis.

However, Team Shearer soon levelled the scores when Sinclair tapped home close range, despite appearing to be in an offside position.

Three minutes into the second half, Sinclair added his second with a delightful free kick to put Team Shearer ahead.

With a quarter of an hour remaining, Kasabian bassist Chris Edwards made it 2-2 when netting after being played in by ex-Liverpool forward Stan Collymore.

After the match ended level, the game went to penalties, which followed the new ‘ABBA’ system.

It was left to pop star Olly Murs to score the winning spot kick for Team Ferdinand, converting from 12 yards past Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho.

The real winner, though, was the local community as thousands were raised to help the victims of June’s terrible fire.
