QPR welcome Robins for final home game of calendar year
Queens Park Rangers throw open the doors at Loftus Road for one final time in 2017 when they host promotion-chasing Bristol City in the Championship on Saturday.
The Rs head into the match with the Robins boosted by a win at Birmingham City last weekend which ended a run of six games without a victory.
Jack Robinson scored twice at St Andrew’s last Saturday, with his second goal in particular a delightful strike.
From the edge of the box, the defender drilled the ball into the bottom right corner of the net to send QPR on their way to a first away league win in 17 matches.
And manager Ian Holloway believes that winning goal could give QPR the impetus they need to get on a good run of form over the coming weeks.
“We’ve just needed one to go in like a rocket and that was it. I can’t tell you how pleased I am for ‘Robbo’ and I thought Idrissa Sylla looked sharp when he came on as well,” he told the club website.
“I’m delighted for everybody, let’s get going and have a good Christmas period where we can get some points.”
The clash with the Robins is the start of a busy run for QPR, who will play four times in nine days.
Following Saturday’s game, the Rs return to action on Boxing Day when they make the trip to Ipswich Town.
The west Londoners are also away on December 29 when they visit Holloway’s former club Millwall in their final game of 2017.
QPR then return to Loftus Road to start 2018 when they welcome title challengers Cardiff City, managed by former Rs boss Neil Warnock, on New Year’s Day.
It looks set to be a testing time for all teams in the division over the next few weeks, so Holloway will have been pleased to end the wait for a win at Birmingham last time out.
The victory was QPR’s first in the league since October 31, and Holloway believes it came at a crucial time.
“I thought we looked a very good unit. We’ve probably played better, so I can’t believe it took that long for us to get another win,” he added.
“It was a really important win because when you looked at the table on Saturday morning and at the run we had been on, it would have been very easy to be negative.”
With so many games to come in the next couple of weeks, Holloway will want QPR to add to that success at Birmingham.
