The rise in pupil numbers meant that Byron Court School, Wembley needed to expand and modernise.

So, last month the school proudly opened their expanded and redesigned school.

The school's expansion from a three-form entry to a five-form took four years to be realised, but it was a much needed regeneration of the school site. The new buildings, which are fully accessible, will see extra teaching spaces to accommodate increased pupil numbers from 630 to 1,050 with 14 extra classrooms.

The new premises reflect the importance that Brent councillors bestow on education. The improved provision for pupils and the state of the art sports facilities underpin the school's deep belief that all children can achieve and I witnessed this in the challenging musical ensembles that were performed by the pupils in the spacious, bright new hall.

Aspiration and excellence for all furthers the work of the school's executive head, Martine Clark, and staff and pupils. Byron Court's collaborative approach through the Teaching School also reaches beyond their facility to support colleagues and pupils in Brent schools and beyond, which brings rewards to those who share their practice and the pupils they teach.

As the chairman of Brent Council's community and wellbeing scrutiny committee, I am proud that Brent Schools are providing such a great education to our young people and I am sure that Byron Court's new learning facilities will benefit future generations of children for many years to come.
