Two people have been shot with one in a serious condition after a barbecue descended into bloodshed.

A man in his 20s and a woman in her 30s were both shot when a suspected argument at a party in Blenheim Gardens, Wembley, on Sunday night spiralled out of control.

A Times source revealed that the woman was not the intended target and was hit in the hand after the bullet passed through the man and into her.

The Times also understands that the owner of the house, a man in his 40s, had only recently bought it and was having the barbecue as a house warming.

The party had already been a source of concern for neighbours in the quiet area where houses can fetch £500,000, with Brent Council confirming they had three complaints of noise.

A council spokesman said the final complaint surrounded someone hearing 'screaming, shouting and gunfire.'

Police said they also received a complaint of noise at 2.15am.

An elderly couple who were visiting their son and wished to remain anonymous said: "Our son told us that there was an enormous commotion last night.

"He said there was lots of noise and then a load of police turned up. He said it sounded like a barbecue had gone terribly wrong."

The man was driven to a west London hospital by people at the party while the woman was taken to hospital by ambulance after the emergency services arrived. Both remain in hospital.

The woman is in a stable condition and the man is in a serious but stable condition.

Both victims are black and the shooting is being investigated by Operation Trident, the Metropolitan Police's specialist unit designed to investigate gun crime in the black community.

Det Insp Michael Millar, Operation Trident said: "During Sunday night there was a private party and barbeque at the house in Blenheim Gardens, we believe that during the evening over 200 people attended the address.

"We are very keen to speak to anyone who attended the party as they may have vital evidence as to what transpired in the early hours of Monday morning, which left two people with gun shot wounds."
