Selt pleased with form despite losing to Bingham in German Masters.

Matthew Selt insists the snooker he is playing means he is still full of confidence despite going down in an enthralling first-round encounter at the German Masters in Berlin.

Selt produced an impressive display as he made breaks of 103, 85 and 76, but still suffered a 5-3 defeat at the hands of world number seven Stuart Bingham today.

In fairness to Bingham, he also played some snooker right out of the top drawer but ended up clinching victory in a scrappy, 69-minute final frame.

And although he was frustrated to fall at the first hurdle in Berlin, Selt believes the form he is showing bodes well ahead of a busy few months.

“I’m playing at a pretty good standard now, so losing, it doesn’t matter who it’s to, is very disappointing,” said the Romford cueman.

“I absolutely fancied my chances of doing really well in Berlin because the only person that has given me a tonking over the past few months is Ronnie O’Sullivan in the UK Championship and I didn’t really turn up to that match.

“I don’t really fancy losing to anyone at the moment but I’ll be straight back home, on the practise table and ready for the qualifiers next week.

“It’s nice to have a busy period because I’m playing well – with the way I’m playing, there could be good things around the corner.”

It has been a stellar season so far for 29-year-old Selt as he won Group Two of the Championship League, made the final at the Lisbon Open and reached round four of the prestigious UK Championship.

And with the tournaments now coming thick and fast before the season ends with the World Championship in a little over two months, Selt is excited about the future.

“There are a couple of tournaments I’m really looking forward to coming up,” added the world number 37.

“The PTC Grand Finals in Thailand is one and the qualifiers for the Chinese and Indian Open next week because if I can qualify for India Open, it will be my first time in the country.

“I’ve been trying to do things I have never done before this year, so qualifying for India would be a good start.”
