England World Cup winner Sir Geoff Hurst visited Wembley Stadium yesterday to launch a new exhibition featuring photographs taken at the iconic venue.
Wembley Stadium and Getty Images have collaborated to create the first-of-its-kind display which showcases more than 100 images including rare an archived photos of historic events and memories.
Since its construction in 1923, Wembley Stadium has played host to two Olympic Games, the 1966 FIFA World Cup, where Sir Goff scored a hat-trick, the Rugby League World Cup 2013 Semi-Finals, Live Aid in 1985, five European Cup Finals, two Champions League finals, a series of NFL and boxing matches, baseball games and concerts from iconic bands and musicians including Eminem, Queen, Muse, the Foo Fighters, Take That and The Killers.
Some of the images featured in the exhibition include sporting events and shots of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, daredevil Evil Knieval and boxing legend Muhammad Ali Melvin Benn, chairman at Wembley Stadium connected by EE, said: “The exhibition features some of the most iconic moments not only from entertainment in Britain but anywhere in the world, and we’re incredibly proud to allow fans of all ages to relive these today.”
The free exhibition forms part of the Wembley Stadium Tour and is also accessible to Club Wembley members on event days.
