Brent Council leader attends the election and gives a speech
Sixth form pupils at Copland School, Wembley, have voted for Jonathon Mensah, and Khadija Muhamed, both 17, as their head boy and girl.
Elections were held at the school in Cecil Road, attended by Cllr Muhammed Butt, leader of Brent Council.
He opened the proceedings with a speech about the importance of elections and praised the school for promoting democracy in the sixth form.
Each of the 12 candidates – six boys and six girls – gave a short presentation before a 15-minute question time was held.
Jonathon won 70 per cent of the votes for head boy and Khadija picked up 65 per cent of the head girl votes.
Phil Allman, head of politics, said: “It was a great event and each of the candidates spoke passionately about what they wanted to do to support the school to go forward.
“Many spoke about building on the excellent A2 results we had and changing the perception of the school – in line with the head’s determination to take this school forward.”
Both Jonathan and Khadija were voted in by more than 350 sixth form pupils and will now work with the school on issues such as fundraising, trips and the new school build.
