The developers of King’s Cross have been named as the favourite choice to head up a section of the £4.5billion Brent Cross Cricklewood development.
Barnet Council will recommend that Argent and its partner Related manage the development of the 78-hectare area Brent Cross South area.
The scheme will take place alongside Hammerson and Standard Life’s Investments redevelopment of Brent Cross Shopping Centre.
Gateway Barnet, (Far East Consortium, Countryside Properties, Notting Hill Housing Trust and Southern Grove), has been identified as reserve bidder.
The Brent Cross South scheme will create 7,500 homes and space for more than 20,000 jobs in addition to a new Thameslink station on the site.
Plus a further 3,000 new jobs will be created by the redevelopment of the shopping centre.
The scheme has outline planning permission as part of the wider Brent Cross Cricklewood development.
Cllr Richard Cornelius, leader of Barnet Council, said: “We want to create a real model for a 21 century suburb at Brent Cross - a neighbourhood not a dormitory.
“What shone through in the proposal from Argent Related was that they had a long term vision for Brent Cross South, had clear views on how that vision would be supported over time and knew how to make the best of a transformed shopping centre.
“They have already shown with their schemes at Kings Cross and Brindleyplace that they can produce great places that generate jobs and support high quality homes.”
As part of the bigger scheme a new pedestrian and cycle bridge – the Living Bridge – will link communities south of the North Circular to Brent Cross Shopping Centre, there will also be a new Bus Station and the new Brent Riverside Park.
Clitterhouse Playing Fields will receive new sports pitches, tennis courts and multi-use games area with a new café, pavilion, changing rooms and public toilets.
Plans also include turning Claremont Open Space into a new community park and the first new homes for residents being relocated from the Whitefield Estate.
