Uncle Charlie is coming into town for one night only.
Charlie Wilson is a unique type of singer as not many artists can span from the 1970s right into the noughties while continuing to increase their fan base.
For the older generation the award-winning artist is one third of The Gap Band, for his younger fans he is the voice behind killer tunes including ‘Come Back My Way’ and ‘There Goes My Baby’.
It will come as no surprise to know the 60-year-old has a plethora of hit songs behind him.
The Grammy-nominated multi-talent is behind the 15-week Billboard Urban Adult Contemporary chart-topper ‘You Are’, the first single from his fourth solo album, Love Charlie, through P Music/RCA Records, which was released in the US earlier this year topped the Billboard Urban A/C chart for five weeks.
His second single, ‘Turn Off The Lights’ is now making its way to the top of the same chart and is projected to reach number one in the coming weeks.
As the former lead singer of The Gap Band his hits included, ‘Oops Upside Your Head’, ‘Yearning For Your Love’ and ‘Burn Rubber On Me’.
In the early 1990s, Charlie became a friend and regular collaborator with Snoop Dogg.
Their relationship provided Charlie with access to many artists who idolized him as well as fresh, emerging talent who has inspired him to continue pushing the limits of his own material.
He has since collaborated with a diverse array of artists including Kanye West, Will.i.am, Jamie Foxx, and Justin Timberlake.
He said: “Working with these artists allows me to not be locked in a time capsule.
“It opens the door for me to be a part of the contemporary music scene.”
Last month he was given the prestigious BET Lifetime Achievement Award at the biggest urban music show in the US.
Charlie is playing for one night only at London’s 02 Shepherd’s Bush Empire on July 12.
