Trainer: Teal can be the next Groves or DeGale

Dale Youth trainer Mick Delaney is backing Joey Teal to go right to the top of the sport after winning the England Boxing Elite Development Championships.
Teal, 23, beat Wirral Community Police’s Jack Kelly on unanimous points to secure the Class B, 56kg title at Houghton-le-Spring, Tyne and Wear on Saturday.
Delaney said: “Joey boxed ever so well. I think he’s going to be another George Groves or James DeGale at his weight.
“Paul Butler, the professional boxer, his father was doing the corner for Kelly and at the end of the fight he came over and was saying how impressed he was by Joey’s performance.
“The referee asked me how many fights Joey had been in because he thought he would be going off to train with the England team in Sheffield soon.
“I’m going to put him in the ABAs now.”
Teal used the first round to size up his opponent but in the second he unloaded several body shots which put Kelly on the back foot.
Teal remained on top for the final two rounds and won by unanimous points.
Teal said: “I thought I won every round in the final and was pleased to get the win.
“I had three years away from boxing when I went to university in Nottingham.
“When I was there I always planned to get back into the sport and I’m always loyal to Mick and Dale Youth.”
