The latest news from the Camden Swiss Cottage swimming

For the first time ever rising stars from Camden Swiss Cottage Swimming Club have qualified for the National Grand Final of the Arena Junior Inter-League team competition and assistant head coach Gerry Gillespie could not hide his delight with the achievement.

Qualifying for the Grand Final puts the Club’s youngest swimmers, aged between nine and 12, in the top eight swimming clubs across the country, with Gillespie proud of the strong performance from his history-making side in the Southern Area Finals which took place at Nuneaton, and as a result booked their spot in the national finals to be held in Corby next month.

“Our young team of swimmers performed amazingly,” he said. “The team spirit was phenomenal and by the end of the 49 events, which culminated in a number of very closely contested relay events, a wall of noise surrounded the pool.

“Myself and our coaching team were really proud of the effort put in by every single one of our swimmers, not only in their own races but to support their team-mates too. We can’t wait for Grand Final!”

At Nuneaton the team produced a magnificent display to finish in third place overall behind winners Guildford City and runners-up City of Derby A number of club swimmers shone throughout the competition, but standout performers on the day for the boys came from Sapir Pasheli in the nine years 50m backstroke, Lucas Bohm in the 10 years 50m breaststroke, Nicholas Finch in 11 years 50m Butterfly, Brandon Biss in the 12 years 50m backstroke and Leo He in the 12 years 50m butterfly.

Not to be outdone, the girls also put in some fantastic performances during the competition with the likes of Ines Guimond-Beetham in the nine years 50m backstroke, Ava Lambropoulos in the 10 years 50m butterfly, Charlotte Pama in the 11 years 50m freestyle and Emilia Magliocco in the 12 years 50m backstroke all excelling.

The team will now begin preparations for the National Grand Final, which takes place on November 26 in Corby, Northamptonshire, where they will pit their wits against the country’s best.
