KILBURN Cosmos surrendered a 10-point lead and ended the year with another defeat as they were eventually overwhelmed 40-13 by a well-drilled Old Streetonians side.

The Cosmos made a dream start as Peter Donaldson fielded a Streetonians knock-on in the third minute and raced 65 metres to score a try that Andy Allen converted.

Allen then slotted a penalty to increase the visitors' advantage to 10-0 and, with prop Rick Nunes and hooker Declan McGee dominating the scrum, Kilburn looked comfortably in command.

Lock John Fenlon led the way in the loose play and set-pieces, stealing ball on the Old Street lineouts, but the home side applied the pressure and finally pulled back a converted try through Tom Downey.

Allen added another penalty to make it 13-7 at half-time, but Kilburn were unable to convert their opportunities after the interval, despite some superb attacking runs from Mo Taguri.

A flurry of converted tries, with Downer completing a hat-trick, took the game away from the tiring Cosmos, and there was to be no way back as Streetonians held their line.

The result leaves Kilburn second bottom in the Herts/Middx Division One table, with a crucial clash against fellow strugglers Old Abbotstonians to come when the league resumes in January.
