Powerday Hooks youngster Dan Mughazai celebrates his win at the Haringey Box Cup

Powerday Hooks ABC youngster Dan Mughazai won gold at the prestigious Haringey Box Cup event at Alexandra Palace at the weekend.

Mughazai stopped Javier Molina, of Basingstoke, in the first round of their quarter-final bout on Friday, throwing fast hooks to the body and head and a straight right which forced the referee to call a halt.

Brighton’s Mikey Rollinson provided the semi-final opposition, but Mughazai had a big first round and then saw his rival walk onto a big right hand in the second to go down.

Rollinson got up but looked a bit unsteady and Mughazai moved in to force another stoppage, before being award a walkover in the final when his scheduled opponent withdrew.

Clubmate Alfie Collins was stopped by Sean Leahy (Fitzpatricks) in the second round of his semi-final, after a bright start, and Jonathon O’Donnell lost a split decision to Guildford’s Jack Ford after receiving a warning for holding.
