Under-nines earn fine win at tournament

London Netball Academy’s under-nine girls showed great improvement in their first tournament of the year at the Alec Reed Academy at the weekend.

The Brent youngsters took on Elthorne under-11s in the first of two matches and were caught off guard as their rivals opened the scoring.

LNA hit back before the end of the first quarter, but were kept off the scoreboard in the next period and fell further behind.

Excellent passing in the second half from Bea and Tabitha moved the ball up the court to Alice, who set up Betsy for a goal and the team repeated the trick from the centre pass, with Bea and Namya combining for Alice to produce a great shot.

Elthorne enjoyed more success, though, despite good defending by Surya and Shiann and ran out 18-3 winners, but LNA bounced back against Renegades under-nines in a more evenly-contested second match.

With great passing from all players, LNA saw Betsy and Shiann move the ball well to Namya to get a great shot in, with Bea also on target.

Surya and Alice denied Renegades at the other end, with Tabitha finding space to pick out player of the tournament Betsy, who set up Bea for another goal.

LNA eventually finished as 9-0 winners and a team spokesperson said: “The girls were so good with their passing and commitment and improved all the way through the match. Well done girls!”
