Thames Valley Harriers Zoey Clark helped Great Britain’s women to a super silver in the 4x400m relay at the World Championships at London Stadium.

Having seen the 4x100m women win bronze the night before, when the British men also landed an historic gold, Clark ran a strong first leg before handing the baton over to Laviai Nielsen.

And team captain Eilidh Doyle – who came into the team in place of Perri Shakes-Drayton – was put into a strong position, which she maintained before passing on to Emily Diamond on the anchor leg.

With Jamaica having dropped out, the British quartet were chasing the Americans and Diamond brought them home in 3.25.00 as the United States clocked a world leading time of 3.19.02.

Clark, who had run a personal best in the individual 400m event earlier in the competition, said: “I’ve learnt a lot, used the atmosphere and to finish it coming away with a medal, I’ve really enjoyed it.

“We knew we had a chance of a medal but we’ve all got to perform on the day and I’m just super proud that we did.”

Doyle added: “We knew we were capable of getting a medal, but we knew it would be tough.

“We all know America and Jamaica are strong, but then you’ve got Nigeria and Poland.

“For us to win a silver medal, when we always seem to be bronze, it’s just incredible to go one better and finish the champs with that has been a great ending.”
