Tom Pettet hit the winning runs as Harrow St Mary’s sealed promotion – and the Middlesex County League Division Three title – with a resounding victory over South Hampstead.

Saints’ success was rarely in doubt after they bowled SH out for 105, with Haran Dharmaraja and Lakmal Kasthuri taking four wickets apiece.

It was Aimal Bangash who made the initial breakthrough, removing Shemar Anderson (14) leg before Dharmaraja (4-45) dismissed Alex Ranger for a duck and Paul Atherley (2).

Bangash (2-27) picked up his second lbw decision against Umair Choudrey (4) to leave SH stuttering at 28-4 before the Williams brothers James (20) and Ed (13) added 25.

But, once Kasthuri (4-21) had accounted for James Williams, another three wickets went down for just six runs and it was only thanks to Habib Akram (15) and Majid Akram (30) that SH reached 105 all out in the 34th over.

Embarking on their run chase, HSM were given an early scare when Amit Chakrawarti (2-22) dismissed Harmeet Singh without scoring, and fellow opener Sam Blennerhasset made just 11 before he fell to the same bowler.

Pettet and Robbie Van der Ross put the Saints back on track with a partnership of 69, with the latter reaching 41 before he was denied a half-century when Anderson trapped him leg before.

However, Pettet took up the baton and guided HSM home in the 24th over, crashing Anderson to the boundary to finish on 47 not out and clinch the title.

Muhammad Arshad hit an unbeaten 65 as Harrow Town saved themselves from relegation to Division Three – and sent Wembley down instead.

Wembley were dismissed for just 113 in Saturday’s clash between the sides and Arshad then led Town to victory – and safety – without losing a wicket.
