Ex-Dale Youth amateur to take part in World Boxing Super Series final

Former Dale Youth amateur George Groves will defend his WBA world super middleweight title against fellow Brit Callum Smith in Saudi Arabia on September 28.

The fight doubles as the super middleweight final of the World Boxing Super Series and will also be for The Ring title as well.

Groves reached the final after defending his WBA belt by beating Chris Eubank Jr. on points in Manchester in February.

However, the 30-year-old dislocated his shoulder in that bout which saw the final, originally scheduled for sometime earlier this year, postponed.

The bout at the King Abdullah Sports City will be a third world title defence for Groves, with all three coming against fellow Brits.

As well as beating Eubank Jr. in February, Groves stopped Jamie Cox in the World Boxing Super Series quarter-finals at Wembley Arena in October.

The competition has been organised and put on by the Sauerland brothers, Kalle and Nisse.
