Wealdstone 2-4 Ebbsfleet United: Defensive errors cost hosts again as they lose for second game running

Wealdstone’s defensive frailities were evident for all to see as they crashed to defeat at home to promotion-chasing Ebbsfleet United on Saturday.
After twice coming from behind to make it 2-2, Stones quickly shot themselves in the foot thereafter and consequently fell to their second league defeat on the bounce.
Dave Winfield gave the visitors an early lead as he flashed a strike past Jon North from close range on 14 minutes. To Stones’ credit they came back strongly, and got on level terms four minutes before the break, as Eddie Oshodi’s strike hit the post, and deflected in off Mark Phillips.
But Stones were punished for a slow start after the interval, with Danny Kedwell heading home clinically from close range.
Again Gordon Bartlett’s men came back strongly, with Jonny Wright poking the ball past Nathan Ashmore to make it 2-2 just two minutes later.
However, that was as good as it got for Stones, with David Hunt’s bizarre own goal followed up by an injury-time strike from substitute Sam Deering to seal all three points for Ebbsfleet.
