Defender scored both goals for QPR in a 2-1 win in the Championship

Queens Park Rangers defender Jack Robinson would have had plenty to celebrate after the 2-1 win in the Championship at Birmingham City on Saturday,

However, the defender had an unusual reason for missing out on the post-match celebrations.

Robinson scored both goals as QPR finally ended a run of 17 away games without a win by beating the Blues.

The 24-year-old opened the scoring at St Andrew’s in the 17th minute, but would have been disappointed when Sam Gallagher equalised for the hosts in the second half.

With seven minutes remaining, Robinson lashed home from the edge of the area to fire the Rs back in front for their first win anywhere since October 31.

The west Londoners will no doubt have celebrated the success on their return to the dressing room after the match, but Robinson revealed why he was kept away from his team mates.

“I don’t know what the atmosphere was like in the dressing room because I had a drugs test!” he told the club website.

He continued with a smile: “I was in there for half an hour, so it absolutely killed the mood for me.

“After I went back, the lads were made up and everyone was really happy.”

Robinson’s brace at Birmingham were the first goals the QPR defender had netted in professional football, despite making his debut as a teenager for Liverpool in 2010.

After seven long years, the 24-year-old’s wait for a goal is finally over, much to Robinson’s relief.

“Scoring is the best feeling ever. I’d never scored a professional goal before, but as a kid I’d scored a few so it was nice to get one in professional football,” he added.

Luke Freeman provided the assist for Robinson’s second, and the defender jokingly admits he was surprised to get the ball from the midfielder.

“I saw ‘Freesy’ had the ball and usually he doesn’t pass it, so I thought I wasn’t getting it, but for once in his life, he’s given me it,” he joked.

“It was one of those when as soon you hit it, you know it’s going in.”
