Moroccan midfielder made his first league appearance for QPR in defeat at Deepdale

Ilias Chair believes Queens Park Rangers performed well on their trip to Preston North End, despite losing 1-0 in the Championship.

Jordan Hugill struck two minutes from time to extend QPR’s winless run on the road in the league to 17 matches.

The Rs had Jamie Mackie dismissed in the 22nd minute, while Alex Baptiste was also shown a red card after picking up a second bookable offence after the full-time whistle.

It was a desperately disappointing afternoon for the west Londoners in the north east, but Chair remained positive about the display from the Loftus Road side.

“I think we did really well as a team. Everyone worked really hard and we showed that we were a team,” the 20-year-old told the club website.

“Once you go down to 10 men you have to change tactics, be more defensive.

“It affected my game, but defending is just as an important part of the game. I’m happy with what I did.”

Chair made his league debut for QPR in the defeat at Preston, with his only previous appearances this season coming in the EFL Cup.

The young Moroccan midfielder was happy to make his Championship bow for Ian Holloway’s men, but would liked to have marked it with a win.

“It’s an honour to be at QPR and to make my league debut, but the most important thing is the result and, unfortunately, it wasn’t there for us,” he added.

“It was a good day but a bad day; I’ve got mixed feelings.

“Ian Holloway gave me a chance and I think I took it. Hopefully I made him proud; I’m proud that he gave me a chance.”
