Former Queens Park Rangers loanee Liam Miller is understood to be battling pancreatic cancer.

The 36-year is believed to be returning to his native Ireland after undergoing treatment in the USA.

Miller had a brief stint with QPR earlier in his career, featuring 13 times in the Championship after joining in January 2009 until the end of that season.

After news of the Irish international’s illness became public, the west Londoners offered Miller their support.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with former QPR loanee Liam Miller, who is battling cancer,” read a post from the club’s official Twitter account.

Miller has received plenty of support form elsewhere in the football community, including former Aston Villa skipper Stilyan Petrov, who previously battled leukaemia.

Petrov said on Twitter: “I’m saddened to hear the news about my old team-mate Liam Miller. Be strong buddy and remember a few of us have beaten it. YOU WILL too my friend. I’m thinking about you.”
