Rs lost at Blackpool in Carabao Cup on Tuesday after defeat to Norwich City in league on Saturday

Steve McClaren will hope Queens Park Rangers can move on from a disappointing week in league and cup when they visit Swansea City in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday.

The Rs suffered a first defeat in four league matches last weekend as they lost 1-0 at home to Norwich City.

The west Londoners then followed that up with a shock 2-0 defeat at Sky Bet League One side Blackpool in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

Those results seem to have dented the recent optimism surrounding QPR, who appeared to have rallied after a poor opening to the new campaign.

Boss McClaren will want his Rs to get back on the winning trail as soon as possible, and he will also be looking for an improvement on the display delivered at Blackpool.

Speaking to the club website after the loss at the Tangerines, McClaren said: “We talked about the performance and a lot of people have been talking about our young players.

“We gave them an opportunity and against Peterborough United and Bristol Rovers in previous rounds, they did well.

“It was one game too many, away from home against a physical team of Blackpool’s stature.

“We didn’t handle it very well and we didn’t play football, but we didn’t earn the right to play.”

It was another frustrating night for those associated with QPR, having also failed to get going in the defeat at home to Norwich in the league last weekend.

McClaren used the cup tie at Blackpool as a chance to give minutes to some of his fringe players once more, but this time the move backfired.

The result was not what those at the Loftus Road club would have hoped for, but the former England boss still found some positives to take from the defeat.

McClaren added: “Grant Hall and Alex Baptiste were immense. They did well not to get frustrated and keep their level of play. They were two big plusses, especially Grant coming back.”

Whether either Hall or Baptiste have played themselves into the reckoning to start at Swansea on Saturday remains to be seen.

One things is for certain, though, and that is McClaren will want his team to get back among the goals after drawing a blank in both league and cup over the past week.
