Queens Park Rangers assistant manager John Eustace admits pre-season friendlies are all about fitness but he is pleased with how the squad are taking instructions on board.

The Hoops have played two behind closed doors friendlies this week as they drew 3-3 with Charlton Athletic on Saturday before cruising to a 3-0 victory against National League side Barnet on Tuesday.

“It’s all about fitness and not getting any injuries and again it was a real good test for the boys,” Eustace told the club website.

“They worked their socks off, their attitudes are fantastic, and obviously it’s great to get a win but the main concern for us is having no injuries and getting fit.”

The former Kidderminster Harriers boss is pleased with how the squad is adapting to different systems and formations already this pre-season after changing formation multiple times in the two matches.

“That’s what pre-season is all about trying different things, different formations, and again the boys took everything on board and they were great.

“Hopefully it will get better, we’re nearly three weeks in now, and their attitudes the way they’ve been training has been second to none, it’s been fantastic and they all want to learn.

“If they keep taking the messages the gaffer is giving them then hopefully we’ll be in a good place come the start of the season.”

Eustace heaped praise on attacker Ebere Eze who has found the net in both matches this week.

“You can see he’s a top young player, lots to learn, but he’s going to be a massive asset to the club I think and his goal was fantastic.”

The assistant also is keen to not have any injuries during pre-season and he gave an update on the four players Sean Goss, Joel Lynch, Paul Smyth and Grant Hall, who missed the two matches through injury.

“They’re all going to be fine, there is nothing serious, obviously with Hally we’re just taking it easy with him as he is going to be a vital player for us.

“It’s going to be fantastic when he’s back fully fit for us and the three other boys just have minor knocks so we’re just taking care of them and hopefully they’ll be a couple back for the Wimbledon game.”

The Hoops will now face AFC Wimbledon in a pre-season fixture this weekend.
