Stones boss far from happy with his side’s defensive efforts against Beavers

Wealdstone manager Bobby Wilkinson criticised his side’s defending after going down 3-0 at home to Hampton & Richmond Borough in the National League South.

Stones endured a difficult start to 2018 after Elliott Charles netted a first-half hat-trick fro the Beavers.

Despite an improved display in the second period, the Grosvenor Vale club were unable to mount a comeback as their winless run in the league reached four games.

And Wilkinson revealed after the defeat that he was far from happy with the defensive display from Wealdstone against Hampton.

“It was dreadful defending. You work so hard at being strong and being organised. All you have to do is pick up your man. If you pick him up and mark him, you stop him scoring,” he told the club website.

“I’m not going to single players out, but those who watched the game will know who it is.

“You can have a game plan as much as you want, but you have to defend and get tight to players.

“Their player scored a hat-trick in under 30 minutes - I won’t accept that.

“A few harsh words were said at half time and we had a go in the second half, but it’s too late.”
