Two local clubs will be looking to kick on after struggling last season

Hendon travel to Tonbridge Angels in the Isthmian Premier on Saturday looking to take their encouraging pre-season form into the new campaign.

The Greens defeated Hertford Town 1-0 on Monday night with Matt Ball scoring the only goal of the game at Silver Jubilee Park.

Gary McCann also saw his team claim a 3-0 victory away to VCD Athletic on Saturday with Zak Joseph, Daniel Uchechi and Keagan Cole on target.

It has been a busy time for Hendon with the club announcing the addition of two players at the weekend.

Jake Eggleton, 18, has signed after being released by West Ham United last season.

The defender spent nine years with the Hammers and made two appearances for their under-23s in the Football League Trophy during the 2016/17 campaign.

Joining Eggleton at Silver Jubilee Park is Uchechi with McCann expressing his delight at securing the striker.

The former Nigeria under-23 international also spent time at West Ham, but was with National League side Boreham Wood last season.

Uchechi has also had spells with Sheffield Wedndesday and Aberdeen and will now list Hendon among his teams.

“I am pleased that a player of Daniel’s ability and experienced has joined the club,” McCann told the official club website.

Uchechi is set to make his competitive debut for Hendon this weekend away to Angels, while Enfield Town visit Silver Jubilee Park on Tuesday (August 15).

Harrow Borough warmed up for the new Isthmian Premier campaign with a 3-1 victory over Egham Town on Saturday.

The win was overshadowed by an injury to Bajram Pashaj with 10 minutes left at Earlsmead Stadium.

A Michael Bryan double put Borough two ahead and although the Sarnies hit back in the second half, Tayo Coker added a third.

But Pashaj’s injury, which was later diagnosed as a slight ankle fracture and ligament damage, was a sour note on the day.

Steve Baker’s team will hope to put that behind them when they host Harlow Town on Saturday before visiting Wingate on Tuesday evening.
