Hendon return to action in the Evo-Stik South Premier South on Saturday when they entertain Poole Town.

The Greens head into the match with the Dolphins off the back of a dramatic week in the FA Cup.

James Gray’s men eventually progressed past Harlow Town in the first qualifying round, but needed extra time in a replay to do so.

The sides first met at Silver Jubilee Park on Saturday in a match that ended 1-1 after Hendon’s Ricardo German cancelled out Christian Adu Gyamfi’s opener for the Hawks.

It meant the Greens and Harlow had to do it all again in Essex on Tuesday night to decide who would go through and collect £6,000 in prize money.

After a goalless first half at the Harlow Arena, Gray’s men suffered a blow in the 64th minute when Prince Mbengui was given his marching orders.

Despite being a man light, the Silver Jubilee Park club took the lead through Romario Jonas in the 77th minute.

That goal looked to be enough to take Hendon through, but Town drew level in stoppage time when JJ Da Cruz scored to take the game to extra time.

The sides remained evenly matched during the additional 30 minutes, but a penalty in the 118th minute from German was enough to take the Greens through, leaving boss Gray to reflect on the ups-and-downs of the cup tie.

Gray posted on Twitter: “Well that was a rollercoaster of a game. Unbelievable character from the boys. Few choice words at half time then thought we were value for the win even with 10 men. Work rate and desire was very pleasing. Some excellent individual performances.”

Hendon’s reward for getting past Harlow is a tie at home to Phoenix Sports of the Bostik South East in the second qualifying round on the weekend of September 22, with winners of ties at that stage collecting £9,000 in prize money.

Before they can think about that cup tie, though, Hendon must first contend with the threat from Poole in the league this weekend.

Following that, the Greens then visit divisional rivals Harrow Borough in the London Senior Cup on Tuesday night.

It is expected a youthful squad will be named by Hendon for that tie, giving some players a chance to show their worth.
