Greens beat Swindon Supermarine 1-0 in the Evo-Stik South Premier South last weekend

Hendon kick off their FA Cup campaign for the season on Saturday when they welcome familiar foes Harlow Town in the first qualifying round.

The Greens and the Hawks were rivals in the Bostik Premier last season, before the Silver Jubilee Park outfit were transferred to the Evo-Stik South Premier South in the summer.

James Gray’s men head into the cup tie off the back of a 1-0 win away to Swindon Supermarine last weekend.

The game’s solitary goal came early on for Hendon as Gianni Crichlow netted for the visitors in just the seventh minute at the Webbswood Stadium.

The Greens were able to hold on to their advantage for the remainder of the game as they recorded a first away clean sheet of the season.

And boss Gray took to social media site Twitter after the game to share his thoughts on the win at Supermarine.

“We’ll play better and lose this season, I’m sure, but the lads stood strong and just about got over the line,” posted Gray.

“Big shout out to the Hendon following, you helped us get over the line — didn’t help with our debrief at the end though!”

Gray will hope the Hendon fans are in fine voice again on Saturday as the Greens enter this season’s edition of the world’s oldest national football competition.

Winners of ties in the first qualifying round will pocket £6,000 in prize money and the Silver Jubilee Park outfit will be wishing it is they who claim it, rather than Harlow.

Gray will hope he can lead Hendon past the first qualifying round this season after they fell at the first hurdle in the last campaign.

The Greens took on Wingate & Finchley, but were beaten 4-2 after extra time away from home in a replay after the initial tie ended in a 1-1 draw at Silver Jubilee Park.

Hendon will be buoyed by positive recent results against Harlow, having beaten the Hawks in both of their games in the Bostik Premier last term.

But as the cliché goes, anything can happen in the FA Cup and the Greens will want to avoid exiting the competition in the first qualifying round for a second season in succession.

And Hendon will hope to get the job done against Harlow at the first time of asking.
