Former professionals spent time talking to students

Former professional footballers Ian Wright and Garth Crooks were present at a special lunch to celebrate sport at Capital City Academy.

The school is emerging as a major hub of football in Brent, hosting school games, Brent district games and even trials for the England under-15 girls’ team recently.

Wright was invited to give a talk and shared the challenges he had faced in his journey to the top.

The former England international gave examples of how Arsène Wenger had helped, but also remembered how the support of his teachers at school had made a positive impact on him.

Wright enthusiastically encouraged the students to work hard and use their time to reach their goals and not to be put off by challenges that they may face.

Crooks, who is also a governor at the school, chaired a Q&A session with students, before Wright mingled with students and posed for photos.
