A hat-trick from Niko Muir helped Hendon end the year on a high note at Barrows Farm on Saturday.

Gary McCann’s men made it five successive victories with their win, during which time they have netted 16 times, with Muir claiming six.

But they had to wait until the 51st minute to get their noses in front, when Ashley Nathaniel-George was brought down in the box and Muir converted from the penalty spot.

Hendon kept former striker Kezie Ibe quiet for the most part and Muir made it 2-0 just three minutes later with a good shot on the turn, before he completed his treble in the last minute of normal time after a mix-up in the home defence.

But the win, and third clean sheet in four matches, was overshadowed by the sending-off of Casey Maclaren in stoppage time.

Muir’s hat-trick made him the second highest Hendon goalscorer at the end of December since the club joined the Isthmian League in 1963.

His 29-goal haul by the end of the year has been bettered only by David Hyde, who had 38 goals to his name by the end of December in 1964, on his way to claiming 59 that season.

Iain Dowie had left the club by the end of December 1988, when he had 25 goals, while Gerry O’Rourke was on 24 in 1963, the same as Paul Whitmarsh in 1998 annd Jefferson Louis inn 2013.

Having viewed video footage of the incident that saw Maclaren sent off, Hendon will be making an appeal to the FA against the red card.
