Former Dale Youth amateur Daniel Dubois continued his unbeaten start to his professional career with victory over Kevin Johnson.

However, the 21-year-old had to rely on the judges’ cards to win after being taken the distance for the first time in his blossoming career.

For most of the 10 rounds, Dubois had Johnson on the ropes with the man known as ‘Dynamite’ slamming home punches from all angles to both head and body.

Having only been stopped twice in 43 previous bouts, Johnson held up well to the challenge and was able to see the fight through to the end, despite Dubois’ control.

The young Brit was able to take the decision and claim a ninth straight win in the paid ranks to continue his development.

Dubois took to social media site Twitter after his victory, posting: “Got the win. Back to the gym and onto the next.”

Johnson, meanwhile, was full of praise for Dubois’s jab when speaking to Boxing Social after his defeat.

“I couldn’t get past that jab. I tried to mesmerise him with the speed of my jab, which was good and landed when it landed,” said Johnson.

“When he started catching it and shooting his back, it was like trying to block right-hand, right-hand, left-hook.”

*Wembley super-lightweight Simon Corcoran earned a second straight win in the pro ranks with victory on a Mickey Helliett show at York Hall on Saturday.

Corcoran had another solid showing in the paid ranks, before receiving the decision from the referee to triumph at the iconic venue.

Corcoran’s brother Gary, meanwhile, is next in action on a Frank Warren show at the Brentwood Centre on October 20.

A previous challenger for the WBO world welterweight title, Gary Corcoran is due to face Johnny Garton.

*There were victories for two west London boxers on the Goodwin card at the Tottenham Green Pools & Fitness Centre last Saturday.

Kingsbury lightweight Jerome Campbell eased to a points victory in his bout against Dean Evans of Hereford.

Dana Zaxo was also a points victor as he beat Latvian rival Jevgenijs Andrejevs to claim a third win in the paid ranks.
