The Commonwealth super-middleweight champion from Hammersmith was close to surrendering his title during their first meeting in November 2010, when Anderson sent him sprawling to the canvas.

But Groves showed plenty of tenacity to fight back and retain his unbeaten record, stopping Anderson in the sixth round – and he has since gone from strength to strength, adding the British crown to his collection.

That defeat remains the only blot on the 29-year-old’s record and he has won all three of his subsequent fights, emerging as mandatory challenger for the British title to force a rematch at Wembley Arena on March 16.

“The first fight I made a few mistakes and didn’t do it as well as I could have,” Groves admitted. “It’s about going out and doing the job.

“I’m really going to relish getting in there and putting Kenny in his place, which is really what I should have done first time. I know I’ve got a decent chin and if he does get one through it won’t be a problem.

“Anderson is a tough fighter, but I’ve come on since we last fought, and I can’t see him going as far as the sixth round this time – he’ll go earlier.

“I’m not underestimating him and he’s going to want to prove that last time was a mistake.”

Groves, who is aiming for his 15th straight win as a professional, last fought in November, when he stopped former British champion Paul Smith in the second round.

The 23-year-old had been due to box again in Liverpool just before the turn of the year, but pulled out with a hand injury and the show was ultimately cancelled.

Anderson is confident about reversing the outcome of his first meeting with Groves, saying: “I can’t see this fight going all the way – it’s going to be an early one for one of us, but I’m going to make sure it’s not me.

“It will be a hard fight, but I know what I did wrong last time and I’ve rectified the mistakes. This time I’ll be coming away the winner.”
