Archant

Hooks ABC saw two of their young boxers experience mixed fortunes in the England National Development Championships at the weekend.

Alfie Collins lost a split decision to Martin McDonagh, from Ilford’s Fairbairn club, at the Tottenham Community Centre, but Jonathan O’Donnell got the better of Islington’s Jayven Wilson.

Collins produced a busy display in his 63kg clash against a taller rival and the decision could have gone either way at the end of three well-contested rounds.

Southpaw O’Donnell used his reach and movement to control his 70kg contest and, after being caught by a couple of counter-attacks from Wilson, he stepped up the intensity to force the referee to stop the fight in the third round.

O’Donnell will now take on Jermaine Adeniji, from south London’s Double Jab ABC, in their London final at Feltham Community College on Sunday.
