Former Dale Youth super middleweight James DeGale makes the fourth defence of his IBF world title against Caleb Truax at the Copper Box on Saturday night.

The bout will be the 2008 Olympic gold medallist’s first in the UK for three years, having fought only in North America since 2015.

The 31-year-old’s last fight was in January when he drew with then WBC world champion Badou Jack in a unification bout at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Since then, DeGale has undergone surgery on his right shoulder, which prompted the lengthy break from the ring.

“I’ve not boxed in London for a few years and I can’t wait to make my return,” said DeGale.

“(Trainer) Jimmy McDonnell has got me in good shape after being out of the ring for so long.”

In Truax, the home favourite faces a tough opponent who lost a WBA world title fight against Daniel Jacobs in 2015.

DeGale co-headlines a bill which also sees Lee Selby defend his IBF world featherweight title against Eduardo Ramirez and another ex-Dale Youth boxer in action in Daniel Dubois.

The 20-year-old, who has won all five of his pro bouts by way of knockout, faces Dorian Darch on at the Copper Box on Saturday.

It will be a first outing for ‘Dynamite’ Dubois since stopping AJ Carter at the same venue in September.

Darch will be a difficult opponent for the young heavyweight, with the 33-year-old having previously been in the ring with current world champion Anthony Joshua and former world title challenger Hughie Fury.

Victory against the Welshman would bring a fabulous 2017 to a perfect end for Dubois, who is the current WBC world youth title holder, as well as the reigning Southern Area champion.

• There were wins for three local boxers on a Goodwin promotion at the York Hall on Saturday.

First into the ring was Wembley lightweight Youssef Khoumari, who beat Joe Beeden on points.

Hammersmith lightweight Mo Gharib had a winning debut as he recorded a points success over Andy Harris.

Former IQ super welterweight Tunji Ogunniya was also a winner on points, defeating Jan Korec of the Czech Republic.
