Navin Shah. Labour London assembly member for Brent and Harrow, has slammed the planned closures.

He said: “Many residents will be deeply concerned about these plans. We’ve seen how ticket office closures in tube stations have been used to mask significant cuts in staff numbers making life much harder for commuters.

“The argument isn’t so much about whether staff are based behind a counter of not, it’s about whether there are actually enough staff left to provide assistance to passengers, particularly given that elderly and disabled passengers often rely on them to help them use the station. I’ll be looking carefully at these proposals to ensure stealth cuts to staffing numbers are not buried in the detail.

“After years of fare rises passengers will feel well and truly ripped off if it looks like they are getting a reduced service yet paying inflated fares.”

LU have pledged to ensure all stations are staffed during opening hours and workers will be able to help customers in ticket halls. To take part in the consultation email with ‘London Underground ticket office changes’ in the subject line.

The consultation closes on January 27.

Stations in Gunnersbury, Kew Gardens and Harrow & Wealdstone also face losing their ticket offices.
