An RE teacher from Kilburn has given her pupils the marathon task of keeping her charity run training on track.

Rita Remis is running the London Marathon hoping to raise £2,000 for the international aid agency CAFOD.

Her pupils at Sion Manning Girls School in Ladbroke Grove have stuck a training schedule on the wall, which includes 64 runs, and are making sure she keeps to it by ticking them off.

To raise much needed funds for charity the 29-year-old has set up a tuck shop for teachers and every week sells them falafel wraps from The Cedar Restaurant in Maida Vale. She has also held a champagne raffle and an own clothes day, in order to hit her target.

She said: “The kids have been absolutely fantastic, really engaged. They’re always asking me how my training is going and wishing me luck. I’m confident in my training and fundraising because I know I’ve got an entire community behind me.

“It’s also not hard to convince anyone to donate to CAFOD – a charity which recognises that the climate crisis and poverty are not separate problems, but actually one big social issue.”
