Speed humps are being blamed for causing loud “thudding and crashing” noises in Willesden.

Residents in Donnington Road and Chambers Lane say that when lorries carrying skips hit the humps, they return to earth with a loud crashing thud.

A resident, who did not wish to be named, said: “They [the lorries] start at six in the morning. The skip lorries seem to be going up and down at about 100mph and the skips go up and down at such speed.

“The humps should be removed or there should be a weight restriction. It’s driving everyone mad.”

Cllr Carol Shaw, of Brondesbury ward, said: “I have never actually had so many complaints – the speed humps are not doing the trick of traffic calming, they are having the opposite effect.”

A Brent Council spokesman said the traffic calming measures meet required standards but checks will continue and a review of the scheme will be carried out after the work is completed.
