Joy as community hub is praised for connecting with its customers

Stallholders are celebrating after Queen’s Park Farmers’ Market was declared market of the year.

The prestigious accolade was presented last week by the Farmers’ Market and Retail Association Local Food Awards.

The market, in Salusbury Road, Queen’s Park, has around 40 stalls and takes place every Sunday between 10am and 2pm.

Queen’s Park resident, chef, restaurateur, food writer and loyal customer Thomasina Myers rang a beautiful, hand cast bell as the award was presented.

She said: “Queen’s Park Farmers’ Market is unquestionably the best thing about living in this area.

“Instead of dreading the weekly shop, we look forward to it where we can meet friends, chat to stallholders and grab a coffee.

“The market makes our lives richer and reconnects us to nature; everyone should have access to one.”

Gareth Jones, from FARMA, said: “This is a farmers’ market that’s alive with a passion for food. It connects with its customers through conversation, great good humour and an infectious generosity of spirit’

Music was provided on the day by Mariachi Mexteca and a special cake was made by Sue Broom. To see more photos click on the thumbnail at the top right handside of the story.
