It's play time for kids across the borough as the council is creating a new adventure playground.

Kilburn Grange Park will see work begin this month on a specially designed adventure playground aimed at eight to 13 year olds, as part of a council project to bring extensive funding to the borough's play facilities.

Residents are invited to see the plans at a public meeting, where designers and council staff will be on hand to answer questions and explain the timetable for construction.

Cllr Janet Grauberg, member for children and young people, said: "The plans look really exciting and have now been agreed so we are moving full steam ahead.

"We hope this new adventure playground will encourage more children to play outside and will be constructed from more natural materials to fit with the wider Play Pathfinder theme of natural play.

"This promises to be a stunning new play facility and one that many of our younger residents should really enjoy."

A draw bridge will lead into the playground area which will feature nets, hammocks, den building, a tandem swing, climbing rooms and a water feature.

There will also be an orchard, an allotment for growing food and a courtyard area sheltered by an oak tree for quieter activities. A new building with a green roof will provide space for games, arts and crafts and a kitchen for children to try healthy cooking.

The public meeting will take place at West Hampstead Women's Centre, The Old Kilburn Library in Cotleigh Road, Kilburn, on Tuesday, November 24 between 6.30pm and 8pm.

If you cannot make the meeting you can find out more about the plans for the adventure playground by contacting Lal Forfar on 020 7388 7015 or lal.forfar@developingprojects.co.uk
